Today isn’t different from the rest of the days I had since my office mate gone on for a vacation leave but there must have been something special in store for me.
I was making my way to Supercat terminal at Pier 4 in the midst of a busy street for my usual afternoon routine; a bit in a hurry pay no attention even to passers by, until this crippled ma maybe in his early 30’s caught my attention. He was crawling along the street where big vans would usually pass with only his bare hands and no companion at all! I overheard his heading for Manila. I stop by for a moment contemplating on what I could do for him .My heart really goes out for him, at the back of my mind was the question: Where are the relatives of this man? Did he crawl from where he stayed down to the pier? The sight of him almost drove me into tears! Despite his condition, I didn’t see any pigment of sadness in his eyes, what I saw was his great determination.
I was praying silently, that there will be someone who has a soft heart that will help him. Luckily there was! A not so old man, might be one of the porter who pass by…let him stay where he was, and advice that crippled man to wait for help, then the not so old man went to the guard house and ask help from them, till a man in motorcycle pass by and drove the crippled man to the pier.
I was then happy for the crippled man yet still worried for him. What about when he reached his destination? Well, a part of my mind told me, someone will be there for him. And I was then reminded of a story in the bible and it made me smile realizing that even in this hi-tech era there are still good Samaritans around, which imply that while there is life, there is hope. And if there is one thing I learned about today: it all comprise with this word: “PERSEVERANCE”
